How Expensive is a Weekend in Budapest

There are some cities that are super expensive to travel to and some that are very cheap. In most of my travels, I have been able to travel to some lesser know destinations and in turn spend less money on expenses. People’s number one excuse as to why they can’t travel is they cannot afford it.

This article will show you what I spent on a weekend traveling to Budapest and how expensive it truly is. I traveled to Budapest in February of 2019 for 3 days. Here is an outline of my expenses:

The Flight: $86.56

We flew RyanAir, a budget airline in Europe. RyanAir does not provide many extras, you can only bring a bag under your seat, you cannot choose your seat and you don’t get food. We did not purchase any extras. We brought a personal item and did not choose our seats or get snacks.

Our Airbnb: $50.43

We staying in this lovely apartment right in the center of town on the Pest side of the city. We stayed here for three nights and paid a total of $302.62 divided by six people.

Transportation: $25.50

We managed to keep our transportation expenses pretty low on this trip. We split two cabs to the airport in Rome for $7.50 each. And we spent $13 USD on a 72-hour unlimited train, tram, and bus tickets, which we used the entire time. We took one bus too and from the airport in Budapest and one cab ride home one night after clubbing for $5 each.

Activities: $32

Our biggest activity was visiting the Budapest Szechenyi Baths. We went on Friday because weekday prices were cheaper and spent $22 on our entrance ticket, which included a locker. We went clubbing one night and spent about $10 in total on drinks for the night (drinks are pretty cheap).

Meals: $80

After landing in Budapest, we stopped at a bunch place near our Airbnb and spent $11. Our first night we had dinner and I spent $19 on a hamburger and drinks. The next day we ate at Budapest Bagel and spent around $3. We ate at the Central Market Hall and spent $6 for lunch and had Hummus Bar, $8 for dinner. Our last day we had a lovely brunch at Vintage Garden and spent $25 and went to a candy store for dinner, $8.

In total, during this weekend we spent $274.49, all expenses included. Click here to read my 3 Day Itinerary for Budapest.
